In 1998 I purchased a 16mm b&w print of the 1934 movie "The Silver Streak" (probably a TV print from the '50's) that exhibited the fatal aromatic symptoms of the VS (Vinegar Syndrome) but was still projectable on my Phillips FP-16 projector, a machine whose intermittent sprocket is an inch or so below the aperture, making it highly intolerant of shrunken prints.
In late 2002 I ran this film and the VS had progressed to the point that it was impossible to frame it, even with the framing adjustment at its maximum offset position - obviously the result of film base shrinkage.
About that time I heard about Vitafilm and thought that this print would be a great test of the product. I treated the print per instructions, and when I next ran it in mid 2003 on the FP-16 the picture was easily "frame able", indicating that the Vitafilm treatment had reversed the shrinkage of the film base. In addition, the vinegar odor was gone. The print continues to run well with no symptoms of VS.
Had I not use Vitafilm this rare print would have continued to decay and would have been lost.
You have a great product, and your claims for it are in no way exaggerated.
